The Online Learner & Assessment

Welcome to eLearning @ CPCC

·        Module one will address eLearning at CPCC, and the personal attributes, concepts, and skills that a student may need to successfully complete a distance learning course.

What is eLearning (distance education)?

• Distance Education is instructional delivery that does not constrain the student to be physically present in the same location as the instructor.  Historically, Distance Education meant correspondence study.  Today, audio, video, and computer technologies are more common delivery modes.

• CPCC offers eLearning (Distance Learning) courses in a variety of convenient formats to meet the needs of our students:

·        television and video-based tele-courses

·        online Internet-based courses

·        non-credit training courses

• Handling e-mail, including sending e-mail attachments
• Basic file management
• Downloading software
• Finding information on the Internet
• Completing online forms
• Use of a browser

Textbooks & Materials

• eLearning courses require the same dedication and self-discipline to succeed.

You still have to:

• read the textbook
• other class reading materials
• follow a syllabus
• hand in assignments on time
• Quizzes & Exams

Interaction & Communication

• Most online classes have few or no face-to-face meetings.

• Online communication may includes
• Discussion Boards (asychronous)
• Emails (asychronous)
• Virtual Chatrooms (sychronous)
